Sebastiano's family has owned this land outside Andria since the 1600s: 300 hectares in one piece, the first farm they ever bought. It was sheep country then, grazing for flocks that walked between Puglia and Abruzzo, before the family turned it over to olives. Their trees now range from five years old to more than three hundred.

His grandfather farmed it the way everyone did then. His father, a professor of agricultural genetics, turned it organic, and for Sebastiano and Valeria, home since 2017 after studying in Milan and working abroad, organic is “not only a label, it's a way of living”. They leave the grass and the wild flowers between the rows, and sow beans among the trees to feed the soil. Their oil won gold at Premio Biol, the international organic olive oil prize, in 2022 and 2023.

Valeria calls Coratina “the queen variety of our area”. They start picking in the second half of October, well before the old custom of waiting for December, while the olives are “between green and gold”. The first oil at the mill smells of cut grass, artichoke and wild chicory.

They name their trees too. Sebastiano's brother named one centuries-old olive Pino, and when they started Le 4 Contrade, their first photo together was taken under it. Adopt a tree with us and it is one of theirs. They look after it all year, and the oil that comes to you is its grove's harvest.

FAQ

Before you adopt.

Your first shipment goes out shortly after adoption. Future deliveries are sent on a regular schedule, and most orders arrive within about a week depending on your location. Packaging is designed to protect the oil during transit.
